On March 18 at the Acworth Walmart, Mahendra Patel, a 56-year-old real estate investor, was arrested on charges of attempted kidnapping after a mother accused him of trying to snatch her 2-year-old child. However, surveillance footage reviewed by former prosecutors and defense attorneys raises questions about the validity of the charges, suggesting that Patel was trying to prevent the child from falling off the mother's motorized cart rather than attempting an abduction. Patel, who has been held without bond since March 22, is seeking to have the charges dismissed, with a hearing scheduled for May 6.
