Tragedy Strikes Atlanta Law Enforcement as Officer Helio Garcia Dies in Collision and Two Others Are Shot

In a tragic week for law enforcement in metro Atlanta, Lt. Helio Garcia of the South Fulton Police Department was killed in a head-on collision on April 16, marking the department's first officer fatality since its formation in 2018. Lt. Charles Cook was critically injured in a shooting two days later while responding to an incident involving a suspect with an outstanding warrant. The driver accused of causing Garcia's death, Santoria McLean, has been charged with murder and other offenses, while Governor Brian Kemp has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Garcia.
