The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board has updated its investigation into the September 29 BioLab fire in Conyers, Georgia, which resulted in road closures, hospitalizations, and the evacuation of 17,000 residents due to toxic smoke and vapors. A BioLab employee reported a popping sound and discovered a chemical reaction, prompting a 911 call as large toxic vapor plumes were detected inside the building. The fire ultimately destroyed the facility, and the CSB continues to investigate the causes and potential long-term environmental impacts of the incident, which has raised concerns over the handling of hazardous materials at the site.
