Off-Duty Atlanta Police Investigator Fatally Shot During Attempted Burglary in Douglas County
An off-duty Atlanta police investigator, Aubree Horton, 32, was fatally shot early Friday morning after allegedly breaking into a home in Douglas County. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when deputies responded to reports of an attempted burglary, revealing that Horton, who appeared to be in a mental health crisis or under the influence of drugs, was confronted by the homeowner and shot in self-defense. Horton, who had recently received the Investigator of the Year award, had been with the Atlanta Police Department for nearly 10 years and was assigned to the fugitive unit.
