UGA Student Among Plaintiffs in Lawsuit Against New Orleans After New Year Terror Attack
A University of Georgia student, critically injured in the January 1 terrorist attack in New Orleans, is one of 21 plaintiffs in a civil lawsuit against the city and its police department. The suit claims that the attack could have been prevented if safety protocols had been followed, citing a deviation from the city’s public safety plan for New Year's Eve and the Sugar Bowl. The plaintiffs allege that the city misused taxpayer funds intended for safety measures, and that ongoing construction delays left Bourbon Street vulnerable to the attack, which resulted in 14 fatalities and numerous injuries.
